The Climate in Chile

Chile’s climate is composed of a broad range of weather conditions mainly because of geographical features. Based on the Koppen system, the country has more than 7 major climatic subtypes some of which include humid subtropical (east), oceanic (south), alpine tundra and glaciers (east and southeast), desert (north), and Mediterranean climate (central Chile).

Most part of the country has defined 4 seasons: summer (December-February); autumn (March-May); winter (June-August); and spring (September-November). Santiago has the most ideal climate in all the cities which also explains why majority of the population prefers to live there. Temperature during warm summers in Santiago ranges from 27C to 33C but typical summer has averaged temperature of 20C. During winter, it can get cold as low as 9C in the day and occasionally reaching 2C at night. Concepcion shares an almost similar weather with Santiago since both cities are under the influence of Mediterranean sub climate.

The southern part of Chile experiences the most rain while the northern region is quite the opposite with possible no rain throughout the year. Despite this, northern Chile has cool weather because it is relatively cloudy.
