Health and Safety in Cyprus

Some illnesses that may be experienced while traveling are deep vein thrombosis (pain of ankle and foot are the main symptoms and to prevent this kind of incident drink plenty of nonalcoholic fluids and while sitting contract your leg muscles), jet lag (eat light meals and drink lots of nonalcoholic fluids to prevent jet lag), Lyme (symptoms are rashes, headache, fever, mild neck stiffness, tiredness and aching muscles and joints), tick-borne encephalitis (tick around the bite, flu, stiffness and headache are some of the symptoms), typhus (spread by lice, ticks and starts with fever, headache, aching muscles and body rash), Cutaneous leishmaniasis (have an effects on the skin tissue that caused disfigurement and ulceration), visceral leishmaniasis (concerning with internal organs), heatstroke (symptoms are dizziness, headache and tiredness and to cure heatstroke you must drink juice or water and cool your body with fans and cold water).

Other diseases that are prevalent include diphtheria, yellow fever, malaria, measles, mumps, polio, rubella, tuberculosis and echinococcus. Transplants are also executed in the country particularly, in centers for corneal, kidney transplantations and open heart surgical treatment. Hospitals can be overloaded. Treatments are much better in private hospital though expensive. This signifies the importance of having a medical insurance. Make sure you obtain a policy that covers any emergency. If you need an ambulance, dial 119 in the Republic of Cyprus or call 112 in Northern Cyprus.
