The Government in Israel

Israel is governed by parliamentary government in which a leader holds the office as long as he or she commands a majority. The election is held every 4 years but Knesset can interrupt the government at any time. Israel’s government is headed by a Prime Minister (Ehud Olmert is current prime minister) who acts also as Minister of Welfare. Under him are the Vice Prime Minister (Shimon Peres, current vice prime minister) and several Ministers holding different offices like Foreign Affairs, Defense, Industry, Trade & Labor,Transportation, National Infrastructures, Communications, Pensioners, Health, Finance, Tourism, Environmental Protection. The Israel government has 3 branches - executive, legislative and judicial branch.

The executive branch is responsible for the day to day management of the state. The legislative branch, known as Knesset, is the Israeli's parliament, managing government activities, and has the power choose or remove the President or State comptroller from the office. The judiciary branch watches over the rule of law and individual rights of the state.

The present Israeli Government (31st government) was established on May 4, 2006. It was composed of different coalition parties such as Kadima, Labour, Shas, and Pensioners Party. The government abides by its Principle Guidelines, which can be classified into two major areas: The Political & Security Arena and The Economic & Social Arena. Under the Political & Security Arena, the government aims to strive in working toward peace and unity within the nation. Under the Economic and Social Arena, the government gives highest importance to achieve a stable and growing economy.
