Interesting locations in Mexico

One of the largest tourist destinations in the world is Mexico. In 2005, it ranked 7th as world’s most visited country and the only Latin American nation included in the top 25. By the end of 2006, Mexico hosted almost 22 millions of foreign tourists according to a World Tourism Organization. The most popular tourist destinations are the breathtaking beach resorts and the ancient Meso-American ruins. December and mid-Summer are the peak seasons for tourists.

Most popular beaches resort that are known around the world include Acapulco, a “paradise spot” and notable for its nightlife and American and Mexican restaurants; and Ixtapa, recognized for various water activities such as fishing and parasailing. Other top-notch beaches are the Puerto Vallarta, Cabo San Lucas in Baja California Sur, Guaymas, Puerto Escondido, Huatulco, Cancun, Ensenada, and Playa del Carmen. The Meso-American ruins consist of the town of Malinalco, Chichen-Itza, Monte-Alban, Palenque, Xochicalco and Teotihuacan.

Some of the notable sites that attract tourists are situated right at the heart of Mexico City such as the Pyramid of the Moon, Pyramid of the Sun, Plaza de Toros Mexico (world's biggest bullring), Mexican National Palace (established on the site of Moctezuma's palace, and the National Museum of Anthropology and History. Some historical sites, buildings and churches that are definitely worth visiting include Querétaro where the 3rd tallest monolith in the world is found; Guanajuato, UNESCO declared the whole city as a World Heritage Site; Campeche, also a World Heritage Site and the only walled city in Mexico; and Zacatecas where its cathedral is adorned in baroque style.
