Local Services in Malaysia

The Ministry of Transport controls the transportation in the country. The Ministry of Works is in charge for road services all over the country including the highways while the responsible in routine road maintenance are the local authorities in their particular areas of jurisdiction.

The common forms of transport in the country are taxis and buses. Air-conditioned and non-air-conditioned buses are accessible in Kuala Lumpur and other cities in Malaysia. Taxis are obliged to use the meter according to the law. In Kuala Lumpur, there is a monorail service and Light Rail Transit. Other types of transport in the country include limousine and minivan.

Ways of communication in the country include Internet (around 8,693,000 users in 2003), radio broadcast stations (shortwave 15, AM stations 35, FM 391 as of 2001), television broadcast stations, telephones (approximately 4,572,000 main lines in use in 2003) and mobile cellular (around 11,125,000 in 2003).

The Kuala Lumpur International Airport is considered as one of the progressive and recognized airport in all over the South East Asian region. Other international airports include Penang (located in Pulau Pinang), Kuching (settled in Sarawak) and Langkawi (located in Kedah). Some of the domestic airports are Labuan (Sabah), Miri Airport (Sarawak), Sultan Abdul Halim Airport (Kedah), Sultan Ahmad Shah Airport (Pahang), Sultan Azlan Shah Airport (Perak), Sultan Ismail Petra Airport (Kelantan) and Tawau (Sabah). The national carrier is the Malaysia Airlines, which presently flies to several destinations worldwide. It offers entry to other nations within both East and Peninsular Malaysia.
