The Culture of Venezuela

In South America, Venezuelans are recognized for their fun-loving and easy-going character. Most of them come from combined African, European and Indian roots. The major religion in the country is Roman Catholicism and the official language is Spanish. Cuisine in Venezuela usually varies from one area to another. Pabellon criollol is the national dish in the country. Other foods that are typically served include main dishes, breads, snacks, desserts, beverages, cakes, cheeses and others.

The country’s main contributions to the art are the attractive religious motifs. In 19th century, the art was considerably transfigured. Martin Tovar y Tovar played an important role in transfiguring the art of the country. Some of the world famous artists are Jesus- Armando Reveron, Cristobal Rojas, Rafael Soto, Manuel Cabre and Carlos Cruz-Diez. The well-known poets in Venezuela include Andres Eloy Blanco and Fermin Toro, which played an important role in the advancement of the literature in the country. Some of the admired writers and novelist are Romulo Gallegos, Adriano Gonzales Leon, Teresa de la Parra, Mariano Picon Salas, Miguel Otero Silva and Arturo Uslar Pietri.

Joropo is the most usual music, which started in the llanos. Other popular music in the country are gaita (originated from the state of Zulia), traditional style (such as salsa and merengue), calypso music (introduced by Trinidad in 1880s and has its own unique poetic and rhythms style), Pop and rock music. Baseball is considered as the national sport in Venezuela. Other sports activities include football and basketball.
