BACHELOR OF APPLIED SCIENCE IN HOSPITALITY ADMINISTRATION (BASHA) SOUTHERN NEW HAMPSHIRE UNIVERSITY BASHA PROGRAM Graduates of approved three-year, 90-credit equivalent hospitality/tourism programs around the world would apply for admission to Southern New Hampshire University for matriculation in the Bachelor of Applied Science in Hospitality Administration (BASHA). This program allows students to earn a bachelor's degree in fourteen months of work and study. The BASHA program begins in late-June (only one intake per year with the orientation start date of Saturday, June 24, 2006), with students taking four courses over 7 weeks during the first summer, then take part in an eight-month paid cooperative educational placement, then return to SNHU for six more courses in 11 weeks during the second summer. The second summer concludes with a graduation ceremony in August to be attended by friends and family to gather and celebrate. BASHA CURRICULUM Diploma credits transferred from an approved three-year program: 90 Major courses: (courses are 3 credits) Economics for Hospitality Students College Composition I Business Communication Hospitality & Tourism Marketing Legal Issues in the Hospitality and Tourism Industry Services Management: A Strategic Approach The American Work Experience Hotel Cooperative Education – 12 Credits (Co-op Experience) Mathematics for Hospitality Administration Introduction to Psychology or Sociology Plus one free elective. Some choices in the past have been: Nutrition, Casino, Conventions, Public Speaking and Film. COOPERATIVE EDUCATION EXPERIENCE The centerpiece of the BASHA program is the 12-credit, eight-month cooperative education experience with a major hospitality corporation. Our Career Development Office works with BASHA students to prepare for the experience and to interview with one of our partner placement properties. Opportunities exist at convention properties, conference centers, city hotels and resorts in locations from California to Florida. Students apply what they learned in the classroom as they gain practical work experience with some of the largest names in the hospitality field, including Hilton, Hyatt, Marriott International and Starwood Lodging. ADMISSIONS Admission requirements checklist: · Application for Admission (A BASHA application packet is available but you can apply by using our International Application or apply on-line at our website www.snhu.edu.) · Official Secondary School & Postsecondary School Transcripts · Letter of recommendation (included in application packet) · Resume · Certification of Financial Support (A sample bank statement for your sponsor is included in the application packet.) · TOEFL Score or Other Evidence of English Proficiency o International students only – minimum requirements o TOEFL Score 530 (197 CBT) o IELTS Test Band 6 Applications are due between January and April of each year for an expected start date of late June. Once we have received and reviewed your application and required documents as listed above, SNHU will issue you a DS-2019, the document necessary for you to obtain the J-1 visa. Upon receiving this document you then will be able to make your appointment with the US Embassy or Consulate located near you.
