Al-Andalus Legacy Tour
Let SpainExchange take you on a journey through the 8th - 15th centuries in Spain , known as the Al-Andalus period. Arabic for 'land of the Vandals', Al-Andalus describes the region of the Iberian Peninsula that was under Moorish occupation. This tour includes visits to some of the most beautiful Spanish sites: the Mediterranean Costa del Sol, the White Villages or “Pueblos Blancos”, the flourishing Andalusian city of Seville , and Granada home to the magical Moorish palace, “La Alhambra”, thought to be one of the most beautiful and romantic places on earth!
SUGGESTED ITINERARY
Day 1: Arrival in Málaga
Your SpainExchange guides will be awaiting your arrival at Málaga airport. After collecting your luggage, a tour bus will take your group to the hotel. After lunch, your guide will meet you to take your group on a guided tour of the ancient fortification, the Castillo de Gibralfaro. Relax and enjoy your first evening in this Spanish seaside city. Dinner will be provided for you in your hotel.
Day 2: Málaga and Ronda
After breakfast your SpainExchange and local guides will take you on a morning tour of the fascinating 11th century fortress-palace the Alcazaba. Following lunch, your tour bus will depart for Ronda. Berber tribes, who settled the area during the eight centuries of Moorish reign, founded these picturesque “Pueblos Blancos” or “ White Villages ” of Andalusia .
Day 3: Grazalema , Arcos de la Frontera and Seville
Start the day off with breakfast in your hotel in Ronda and get ready to spend the day with SpainExchange exploring the enchanting "Pueblos Blancos" of Grazalema and Arcos de la Frontera. After the tranquility of these idyllic Andalusian villages, SpainExchange will take you to your next destination- the thriving and prosperous city of Seville . Enjoy a typical Spanish evening stroll through the winding streets lined with orange trees, before having dinner at your hotel.
Day 4: Seville
After breakfast, your SpainExchange guides will take you on a guided tour of Seville 's many historical sites including the Plaza de España, Maria Luisa Park and the Torre del Oro. After enjoying some free time for lunch your guides will meet you for an afternoon visit to Reales Alcazares, the Giralda, Patios de los Naranjos, the spectacular Cathedral, and the Church of the Macarena- the patroness of the city. Spend the evening relaxing in a “tapas” café or enjoying the shops, before having dinner in your hotel followed by a good night's sleep.
Day 5: Córdoba
Pack your bags, have some breakfast, and get ready for SpainExchange to whisk you off to the Andalusian city of Córdoba ! This city situated on the important Guadalquivir River and founded by the Romans in 169 BC, is truly one of Spain 's treasures. Your SpainExchange guide will enjoy taking your group on an afternoon tour of some of its fascinating Al-Andalus landmarks: Alhóndiga Square , the Almoravid Arab Baths, and Cypress House.
Day 6: Córdoba
You'll be grateful to have another day to explore this beautiful Andalusian city. After breakfast at the hotel, your SpainExchange guides will take you to visit the pride of Córdoba, the fascinating Arabic mosque or “Mezquita”: built by the Moors and later converted into a Roman Catholic cathedral. After lunch, your group will visit the Moorish city walls, the Albolafia Water Wheel and various other monuments remaining from this great civilization.
Day 7: Granada
After breakfast in the hotel, your SpainExchange tour bus will take you to the nearby city of Granada , home to one of the most beautiful and well-preserved landmarks of the Al-Andalus period, La Alhambra. Spend the afternoon with your guide, exploring the old center of this ancient city with a visit to the Albacin Quarters. Dinner will be provided for your group at the hotel.
Day 8: Granada
After a good night's rest, you're SpainExchange guides will accompany you on a morning tour of the enchanting Moorish palace, La Alhambra. After enjoying some free time for lunch and a Spanish “siesta” your guide will meet you to take you on a walking tour of this beautiful Andalusian city with a special tour of the Sacromonte Quarters. Spend the evening in one of the “Cuevas” or cave houses listening to live flamenco music, or sipping tea in one of Granada 's many Arabic teahouses, before having dinner at your hotel.
Day 9: Málaga
SpainExchange will take your group back to Málaga. After lunch, spend your last day in Spain soaking up the rays on the beach, picking up souvenirs, or relaxing in an outdoor cafe. Your SpainExchange guides will take you for a special farewell dinner at one of Málaga's typical Mediterranean restaurants.
Day 10: Departure
Your SpainExchange guides and tour bus will accompany you to the airport to assure that you have everything you need for your trip back home! ¡Buen viaje!
