Nursing Studies in The United States

You can study nursing at the University of Alabama.

Most students, especially international students prefer to study nursing in the United States for a number of reasons. The first is the fact that the country offers students an opportunity to experience state-of-the-art medical resources and facilities and to learn under the guidance of first-class nurse lecturers. Nursing students also get access to outreach clinics, hospice care centers, and acute care hospitals. Besides all these, students also get the chance to gain exposure from different people with different ethnic, cultural, religious, educational, and socioeconomic backgrounds and learn from others. If nursing is a field of interest to you, then you should consider pursuing your education in the US.

Nursing programs in the US

There are a number of nursing programs offered in the different nursing schools in the country. Some of them include the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) program which runs for one year. The other is the Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) training program which takes a maximum of two years to complete. Other programs are the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), Accelerated BSN programs, Master of Science Nursing (MSN), the Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) program, and Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) programs.

Some schools may require a student to take a SAT, ACT, or TOEFL test so as to be admitted to some of these programs especially the LPN/LVN program.

After pursuing any of the above mentioned programs, all nursing students have to take the National Council Licensure Examination, also referred to as the NCLEX so as to become a licensed registered nurse in the US, thus allowing them to practice nursing in the country.

Nursing schools in the US

The World Health Organization has given the top ten nursing schools in the United States that students’ can enroll in to pursue their education in nursing. These schools include University of Illinois College of Nursing in Chicago, Penn School of Nursing, University of California-Los Angeles, University of Alabama, Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing (FPB) at Case Western Reserve University, Colombia School of Nursing, University of Michigan School of Nursing, University of Maryland, New York University, and University of Miami School of Nursing and Health Studies.

These universities and others not listed here offer the best education in nursing. Students are taught by experienced professors and clinicians in the field thus providing them with the knowledge they will need in the field.

Careers in Nursing

As a nurse, there are a number of career options a student can pursue. One can decide to be an office nurse so as to take care of patients at an outpatient surgical clinic, at an outpatient clinic, or in a doctor’s office. You can also be a public health nurse and get the opportunity to work with people in the community so as to improve health in the society. One can decide to be a long-term nurse so as to take care of patients’ with different conditions varying from small health care issues to major health care issues such as Alzheimer’s disease.

These are just but a few career options one could consider. All the different careers in nursing give you job stability thus allowing a person to create a schedule that is suitable for their lifestyle.
