Over the last couple of decades, orthodontic and surgical communities have seen an upheaval in the treatment of oral and maxillofacial conditions. In regards of surgery, improved rigid fixation systems and substantial technical developments have led to the improvement of minimally invasive surgical protocols and unconventional therapies, shortening total treatment time and enhancing results. In terms of orthodontics, an improved comprehension of bone biology, as well as the introduction of new anchorage devices and orthodontic techniques, have increased orthodontic effectiveness, widened the number of conditions that can be treated by orthodontic and combined therapy, and reduced treatment times. The UIC’s Department of Maxillofacial Surgery and Department of Dentistry have wide clinical experience in this area, and are actively creating new protocols and systems that have been popularised globally. This course will give a complete, state-of-the-art view of treatment for oral and maxillofacial conditions from the viewpoint of the orthodontist and maxillofacial surgeon.

Corticotomies is a surgical process that allows orthodontic dental movement to be enabled, increasing the limits, improving alveolar bone volume and often reducing treatment time. It is an extremely interesting treatment device which opens up many treatment choices and takes a clear interdisciplinary approach. The aim of the course is to demonstrate that through corticotomies you can increase the predictability of the orthodontic treatment, therefore reducing the dental and periodontal biological cost and decreasing pain for patients. This course revises the biological basis of the process, establishes recommendations, delivers the reasoning, treatment and evolution of various clinical cases and describes the surgical method, the instruments needed and the design of corticotomies
