Bahrain is a stronghold in the educational system of the Arabian Peninsula region with one of the oldest public educational structures that was established in the year 1919. The education of the Kingdom of Bahrain is administered by the Ministry of Education (MoE). This ministry oversees public as well as private education in Bahrain.

A Quality Assurance Authority for Education & Training (QAAET) was established in the year 2009, in the month of February. The QAAET enjoys the responsibility of reviewing and assessing schools, various universities and training institutes, besides conducting various national examinations. Additionally, the body is also responsible for raising the standard of education in Bahrain and overseeing the various areas of education. Some of the areas which the QAAET team looks after are:
  • Development of indicators, processes, guidelines and various mechanisms of evaluating and reviewing the quality of education provided in various levels
  • Development, implementation and successfully carrying out the various national examinations
  • Ensuring transparency in the entire educational system in the kingdom
  • Issuing annual report on the system and pinpointing the areas to be taken care of

At the Universities in Bahrain, the associate diploma and the degree programs need at least 64 to 70 hours, which is typically equivalent to 2 years of studying. In order to be eligible for the Bachelor’s degree in Bahrain, a student needs to successfully complete at least 128 to 131 credit hours, which is typically analogous to 4 years of study. For engineering, 142 to 159 credit hours are required, architecture requires five years of study and for medicine, six years of study are accredited.

Master’s Degree courses in Bahrain generally comprise of two years of studying while a doctoral degree needs three years of studying as well as research on a particular field or discipline.
