One of the party capitals of the world, Ibiza is a destination that should be on every student’s lips. Although it is renowned for its nightlife, a holiday on this beautiful island offers much more and is accessible to students of all interests and ages. In fact, students from anywhere in the world can easily access the charms of the island and once there, you probably won’t want to go home.
For the explorers and adventurers
For those who seek action and adventure, there are plenty of activities to choose from to get the blood pumping. Fancy some fun in the seas? Then go cliff diving with an experienced instructor or hire out jet skis, or go wakeboarding, or strap on a water jetpack! Fancy horsing around? Then horseback along the fine beaches, through magnificent forests and even up mountains.
Do you feel like getting off the the beaten track? Then visit the small beach and rocky cove of Ses Balandres. To get down to it, you will have to traverse an old rickety ladder and scale 20 meters of a sheer rock face using an old rope. It’s certainly not for the faint-hearted!
For those who crave culture
Without exception the old town of Ibiza, called Dalt Vila, is the place to head to for the culture vultures. Named a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, Ibiza’s old town outwardly displays the history of the island with its sixteenth-century fortified walls and its stunning architecture. There is the wonderful Archaeological Museum of Ibiza to visit and the sublime cathedral of Santa Maria.
While you’re in Dalt Vila, pop into a local restaurant and try one of the two delicious, local delicacies of the island: guisat de peix (fish stew) and peix sec (dry fish). After you’ve eaten, wash it down with another tasty part of Ibiza’s culture: the locally produced liqueur Hierbas Ibicencas. It is made from a variety of herbs and packs a warming aniseed punch.
For the party people
For the students who want to go crazy on the dancefloor and watch the morning rise while savouring beers and cocktails (responsibly of course), well, you are in for a real treat. With top DJs coming to the island every year, you will want to look ahead and find out what’s happening in each club.
Nevertheless, you don’t want to miss a night out at Space, Pacha or Amnesia, Eden, Privilege, Destino, DC10, Sankeys or… the list really does go on and that is without mentioning the plethora of bars that stay open until the early hours. That includes bars like the Surf Lounge, where you can eat, drink and also surf artificial waves courtesy of the FlowRider. Just don’t attempt all three at once.
For the beach bums
If you are the kind of student who likes to take it easy, chill out, relax and soak up the sun, then Ibiza’s beaches, with their white sands and warm turquoise seas, are made just for you. There are too many to list here, but we have three to get you started. For the best sunrises and sunsets visit Cala Conta. For the best suntrap heatwaves check out Sa Caleta with its red sandstone cliffs that act as a wind shield. Or, for a more secluded, peaceful affair saunter on down to Cala Xuclar.
Ibiza is for you, quite simply.
