University Master's Degree in Clinical Research – Official

Research and innovation (R&I) in health sciences is a vital factor for the development and wellbeing of individuals and the general public by way of making new and better ways to anticipate, diagnose, treat, rehabilitate or ease the diseases and injuries they suffer. Catalonia has a high level of research in the area of health sciences chiefly undertaken by doctors and pharmacists in care centres, research centres and universities. However, there is still only a very small fraction of research carried out by clinical specialists in the healthcare arena, specifically very few nurses, physiotherapists, psychologists, occupational therapists, etc. This Master's degree gives both the instrumental and procedural tools required by professionals who want to perform research, improve their knowledge, use scientific evidence and/or obtain a doctorate. The program’s aim is to teach research techniques to nurses, physiotherapists and other healthcare professionals who perform research in hospitals, primary care centres, institutes, high performance centres, research centres, etc., who want to achieve a doctorate and follow an academic career.

Course on Basic Life Support and Automated External Defibrillator (BLS-AED) (3rd Edition)

Cardiovascular disease is one of society’s biggest health problems. As result, efforts are being made to train the populace, not just people directly connected to the health industry, so that they can play a crucial role as first responders. With this Course on Basic Life Support and Automated External Defibrillator, UIC have established a student/teacher ratio of 8:1 to make sure there is proper practice and adequate follow-up. It will be delivered by an instructor from the Catalan Resuscitation Council (CRR) and will include the content designed for official BLS-AED courses. Course on Releasing Myofascial Restrictions

The fascia is a framework of very tough connective tissue that extends throughout the whole body like a three-dimensional network. Membranous in appearance, it links and encloses all of the body’s networks, providing support, protection and shape. Myofascial restriction is the physical change to the fascia that can be the result of surgical procedures, traumas, repeated micro-traumas, bad posture, stress, etc. These restrictions can result in pathological fascial tension which, if not treated properly, can end up with hypermobility and the loss of flexibility, the onset of pain and elasticity in the fascial system. Myofascial Release Techniques (MRT) include a procedure of assessment and treatment which, through movements and pressure applied over a period of time, succeeds in eliminating the restrictions. The aim of this course is to give students the necessary skills and ability to identify and treat myofascial restrictions and restore functional equilibrium.

Continuing education course: Rational Approach to Life Support in Sepsis

Sepsis is the cause of around 50% of all deaths in intensive care units. Early diagnosis of sepsis and execution of a timely and suitable management plan have been shown to be vital in providing high-quality care. Sepsis, as well as acute myocardial infarction and strokes, is a familiar scenario in which the time between onset and the start of effective treatment is key to providing better quality care. In this regard, the health professionals that make initial contact with the patients are responsible for speedy recognition, even when clinical symptoms may not be really evident. They are also often responsible for the early management of the patient, which may have a massive impact on the progress and outcome of the patient in the short and medium term.
