Can you sit in on classes at Harvard?

Can you sit in on Harvard classes?

Yes. No one will stop you from walking into a lecture hall, or even a teaching classroom. For seminar-sized classes, someone might notice and expect you to leave, but if the class is large enough that the professor doesn't know the students by name, how will they know that you're not supposed to be there?

Are you allowed to sit in on college classes?

Some colleges will encourage you to sit in on a college class. They may even provide lists of options for you to visit, with different courses in different subjects. This way you can choose a course in a field that most interests you. Not all colleges will allow you to sit in on a class, however.

Can you just take classes at Harvard?

You may choose to take a single course — perhaps to build a new skill, explore a passion, or prepare for graduate school. Or you may decide to take courses in pursuit of a degree or certificate. The choice is yours. Our courses are open enrollment, requiring no application to enroll.

The Harvard University Visitor Center offers several different types of tours. For our in person tour offerings on campus, we provide the Official Historical Tour of Harvard. All tours are provided to the public for free and to private groups for a fee. Our tours typically run 45-60 minutes.

Yes, in most instances students or nonstudents may sit in on a college class by asking the university if they can AUDIT a class which will give them permission to check out the course but there could be a fee associated with this.

Can I sit in lectures?

Sitting in on large lectures is pretty easy (so long as you aren't disruptive), whereas it's always good to ask permission to sit in on smaller, more intimate classes.

Can you sit in on classes but not for credit?

What Does It Mean to Audit a Class? Students who audit a class enroll in a course for no credit but typically must still pay for the class. While auditing a course, you will have access to all class materials but will likely not need to complete homework or take any exams.

Does Harvard have attendance?

Attendance and absence forms will be tracked during courses, and notification of all absences will be sent to the students' society as well as to the course director and appropriate course faculty.

Does Harvard have boarding?

Our Dean of Students Office arranges first-year dormitory assignments. We place first-years in suites with other first-year students, allowing for plenty of opportunities to socialize and bond. Dormitories have a wide variety of rooming arrangements that range from doubles to larger suites.

Can Harvard students have guests?

You may only host guests with the express permission of your House Office or proctor. Overnight guests will not be granted an ID card to swipe into Harvard spaces, so you should plan to accompany your guests during their visit. Campus visitors must follow all University policies while on campus.
