Study, Work or Volunteer in Chile

Chile is located in southwest South America, stretching far south to Antarctica. Its westernmost point is Easter Island, located in the Pacific Ocean, 3,760 km. from the Chilean coast. Its ribbon-like shape makes the wide range climate experience all over the country. The country measures 4.329 kilometers in length. Placed over a map of Europe, it would extend from Madrid to Moscow.

The economy of Chile is one of the most stable and successful in Latin America particularly in terms of quality of life, competitiveness, economic freedom, political stability, and globalization. The official language is Spanish while other indigenous languages spoken are Mapudungan, Quechua, Rapa Nui, Yamana, and Aimara. Based on the 2002 census, about 70% of the population belongs to the Roman Catholic Church and 15% to Evangelical Church.

Visitors from most countries require only a current passport and a tourist entrance card, which is valid for 90 days. No inoculations are necessary. Travelers are mostly drawn to this string-bean country because of its spectacular Pacific coastline and Andean highlands, as well as the adventure sports on offer. But if you're here for more than that, then Chile will have gastronomes going gaga over its good food and cracking wines.

Chile’s international relationship to the world has been dynamic since the early 1990’s. The country is presently serving on the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Board of Governors and participates in various UN peacekeeping activities. Chile has been a strong advocate of the Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA) and actively takes part in the WTO’s Doha round of negotiations.
